There's a whole lot of space for horses, and you generally walk right through one of the horse lots going from the cabin to the house. However, there is a lot of dirt outdoors. Cleanliness: The Cedar cabin and the owners' house are quite clean. The lower level also has a washer and dryer that all units can use. Furnishings were functional and reasonable modern, comfortable but not luxurious. The main level has a small bedroom with a twin and a double a large room with two double beds, a kitchen area (full size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, kitchen sink, some cabinets stocked with dishes, coffee, cocoa mix, popcorn, etc,) and a kitchen table and a bathroom. The main level and loft form the other unit in Cedar. The lower level can be locked off and offered separately, with two beds, a microwave, coffee maker (maybe mini frig?) and a bathroom. The extended Huff family built it with timber from the ranch. Accommodations: We stayed in the Cedar cabin, which was much larger than our group of three needed. My granddaughter learned a lot about natural horsemanship, riding on different terrain, moving cattle, and opening gates while on horseback. One evening, we interacted with foals, helping them to become comfortable with humans. We went on trail rides in the woods and along the river, and we rode in the cattle areas. My daughter and I rode one to two hours a day, but my granddaughter was on horseback about 4 to 6 hours. The Huffs truly do individualize the vacation to please the guests. She has had horse lessons and is fairly skilled. We chose this ranch for my granddaughter who is starting college next month. My daughter and I have little horse experience. The owners are renowned for their expertise in natural horsemanship. Horses: The best! The horses are wonderful, beautifully trained. The nearest hospital is in Springfield, MO, two hours away. The nearest town is Ava, population 3,000, 30 minutes away. The last couple of miles, you drive on dirt roads. But don't expect any night life, not even square dancing. If you want horse experiences and cattle ranch experiences, there could not be a better place. ![]() You eat meals in the owners' house around their dining room table with the family. This is not a resort - it's a horse and cattle ranch. Summary: We loved Bucks and Spurs, but you have to understand what you're getting yourself into. Thank you Sonny, C and Kim for such an incredible time. So we decided to take a piece of their paradise home with us. Even after extending our stay, we still didn't want to leave. Prices are very reasonable since it is all-inclusive, with your food and activities and lodging all included. The Huffs will make you feel right at home and cater to what you want to do with your time there. They will also offer to take you fishing or kayaking on the river. You can be as involved as you want, or do as little as possible. You don't have to do as much as my husband and I did. I can't tell you how much I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy themselves at a guest ranch. So much that I kept asking to train some of the younger colts a few tricks during our free time. With the Huff family's help, I found myself falling in love with the natural horsemanship aspect of training. At least 5 calves were born during our stay, and we even got to help weigh and tag them. They let us count, herd, and sort the cattle daily. My husband wanted to learn about raising cattle and C never seemed to get annoyed of all his questions. The meals prepared by Sonny and Kim were all delicious. The cabin we stayed in was just perfect - cute and spacious, close enough to the main house and horse corral but still felt private enough. In short, they could do all the things quarter horses could do, but with a smoother gait! Wait until you feel how comfortable their trots and lopes are! The horses are so talented, and I could tell without a doubt that they are very well cared for and loved by Sonny, C, and Kim. We rode Missouri Fox Trotters that were bred and raised by the Huffs themselves. We rode across so many different types of terrain - fields, meadows, woods trails, small creeks, etc. The ranch property is absolutely gorgeous - we rode for 4+ hours every day and was never bored because there was always a new trail or pasture to ride through. This is a working cattle ranch and it definitely exceeded our expectations. We originally booked a 3 night stay, but extended it to 5 once we realized how special this place was. We were so happy that Sonny Huff was able to make changes to accommodate my husband and me for a weekend in August. ![]() Wyndham Grand Cancun All Inclusive Resort & Villas.Springfield-Branson Regional Airport Hotels.Hotels near Bucks and Spurs Guest Ranch.
